Kotoko open six point gap

Kumasi Asante Kotoko extended their lead at the top of the Onetouch Premier League to six points following a 2-0 win over Tema Youth.

A goal in each half by veteran Emmanuel Osei Kufour and youngster Eric Bekoe gave the Porcupine Warriors all three points.

And with their nearest rivals Heart of Lions having gone down by two goals in Berekum against Arsenals, Kotoko now enjoy a six point gap at the top of the table.

But there was bad news for Kotoko after Kufour was shown a straight red card that will now rule him out of the super clash between themselves and arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in two weeks.

The former footballer of the year left referee Alex Kotey with no choice but to dismiss him when he elbowed Wilson Addo in the 52nd minute, even after Kotey had called a foul in his favour.

But the sending-off came after he had scored the opening goal for the Porcupine Warriors. He rose to head Kotoko into the lead from Isaac Inkoom’s corner-kick on 18 minutes.

Kotoko held on without him before in-form Eric Bekoe scored from Osei Kwame’s cross for his side’s second and his personal 10th goal of the season out of eleven games.

Bekoe celebrated his goal by running over to shake the hand of Tema Youth coach Isaac Opeele Aboagye, who as a television pundit and coach had called Kotoko an over-rated side.

While victory entrenched Kotoko as the league leaders it has left Tema Youth still seated in the bottom four in what is proving to be a difficult second season for them
